Earlier this week the bridge at Kelham was closed because of an accident. I just thought I'd mention that the bridge is now fully open.

Mantic Games in association with the GCN are set to hold the very first official UK Dreadball tournament in early February, however there is a twist, the tournament will be held in two halves at two separate shows one week apart.
- First half, (round 1), to held at the Vapnartak show at York Racecourse on 3rd February.
- Second half, (round 2), to be held at the Hammerhead show in Newark, Nottinghamshire on 10th February.
The winner of the first half and the winner of the second half will be invited to Mantic HQ (date to be organised), for the play off to decide the grand champion of the very first official Mantic Games Dreadball tournament.
Registration for the tournament is on the day at the relevant show, just go and register your interest with the Mantic Games Outriders who are manning the tables at each show and they will look after you.
Cost of entry to tournament is free, normal show entry price applies.
Hopefully we will see loads of interest in this tournament, so if you already play Dreadball and want to join in the tournament, want to learn to play Dreadball, or just want to know more about the game, then come along to one or both of the shows and join in, everyone is welcome.

COGS at the Triples show 19th & 20th May 2012 |

Tuesday 22nd May 2012 |

Well, another Triples show has come and gone, held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, near to the Meadowhall shopping
centre, this is the third year that Triples has been held in this venue. For those that do not know Triples is a long running show
hosted by the Sheffield Wargames Society over a weekend, it used to he held at the University of Sheffield but moved to a more
suitable venue three years ago. The EIS venue is airy light and easy to get round, with good parking and easy access to the M1
and road/rail/tram links, although for the first time there was a parking fee of £3.50 per vehicle, which came as much as a
surprise to the show's organisers as to the visitors by all accounts.
The main reason the show is held over a weekends is because of the tournaments, there were at least three running, for ancients,
in various scales, and its hard to do that with a one day show. Plenty of traders attend this show and if I am not mistaken this
is the quite possibly next largest UK show after Salute. A good selection of traders selling a diverse range of products which
would keep most hobbiests happy. There were some good games on show too, and a really spectacular WW1 Games based on the batle
at Mons.
In attendance at the show for COGS were Dave Wise, Anthony Barnes and Terry Cook. The club was there over the weekend running a
participation game that Dave and Anthony have devised and written. This is a small scale rule set initially called 'Blood Feud'
set in the Victorian era and features various factions of mutants, monsters, manics, circus freaks, vampires and fairy tale
characters in teams dueling it out in an arena for supremacy. Its a bit like 'fight club' for lunatics, its fast paced and
great fun to play. We had four 2 foot by 2 foot arena boards sets up and we were kept pretty busy all weekend, we had another
of our club mates Terry help us out again and he did a stirling job, running several games each day for us, at several points
over the weekend we had all four boards in action at the same time, which kept us on out toes.
The icing on the cake though came right at the end of the weekend, two GCN clubs took the honours for best participation games
at the show. COGS was presented with 1st place with Blood Feud, which came as a complete surprise, although as mentioned the
game was very popular with attendee's, and to complete the double with 2nd place a new club to the GCN who only joined the
network in April, Heathens and Peasants from Doncaster running a 28mm wild west game. So well done to them and a really good
result for GCN clubs.
All in all a really good weekend, and a show to look at coming to in 2013 if you have never been before.
